Solar cells
Solar cells are not quite as new an invention as some people might
think. These cells have been used for many years. More than half a century
ago, these cells were being researched and developed.
Still, even though this technology is not necessarily new, there are
new ideas and concepts constantly coming in to play. Regardless of the
fact that the technology has been a round for a while, there are few
who truly understand how solar cells work.
Up until recent years, all of the silicon used in solar cells was neutral.
The extra electrons in a cell were simply balanced by the extra protons
that were located inside of the phosphorous.
When the light (which comes in the form of photons) finally reaches
the solar cell, the electron frees electron hole pairs.
There are several steps involved in making panels, but one of the most
important steps is the final step in the process. This is the placing
of the glass cover plate on the solar cells. It is this glass cover
that helps the cells be more absorbent to light and helps with the connection
that leads to the rest of the solar energy system.
