Solar panels, Power, and Energy
Welcome
to editorialsolar.com. We should all be concerned about the way we use
energy. As a society, we’ve come to depend heavily on our non-renewable
resources, but we can’t expect to have them forever. Oil and coal
– two materials that power our homes and cars – will disappear
one day, which is why we need to look into renewable energy. Water and
wind energy utilize natural occurring processes, but solar energy is
our most popular, renewable resource.
We are a site devoted to providing information regarding all the benefits
of solar power. We believe that the future of our planet depends on
finding cleaner, safer ways to power it, and solar energy is that solution.
Even though we may mention specific brands on this site, Editorial Solar
is not in any way sponsored by any private company or manufacturer –
we are just trying to provide options to make it easier to better our
world.
But what is solar power, exactly? Solar energy is transmitted through
solar cells -– like what you would see on a solar-powered calculator.
Basically of these are called photovoltaic (PV) cells, which convert
sunlight into electricity. Photovoltaic cells are made from semiconductor-material
(silicon), which absorb sunlight and transfer it to the actual semiconductors.
Once there, electrons are broken off and allowed to move freely. The
cells then direct the electrons into a certain way to create a current.
If you put a metal object over this current, it channels the energy
into a usable form.
One of the initial benefits of switching to solar energy is the money
it will save you on your power bills. Solar energy, if utilized correctly,
is an absolute great way to save money in the long run. One of the ways
many people go about doing this is through net metering. If you equip
your home to generate solar energy, most homeowners retain connection
to the local power grid. Then any excess solar energy can be fed back
into the city/county’s main grid and offset your costs even more.
When the process of energy leaving a home and going into a power grid
occurs, this is called net metering. When net metering happens, something
interesting also happens with the gauge at your home that measures your
electricity usage - it actually begins to move backwards.
What this means, in principle, is that you are actually selling to the
power company the extra power your home gathers from the sun. However,
the payment from the power company is rarely money, but rather comes
in the form of credits. Because it is rare that a home produces more
energy than it uses, there are few who actually make money at this.
But there are definitely many who are able to save money in this way.
This is just one of the practices that occurs with the use of solar
energy. Things have changed quite a bit in recent years when it comes
to solar energy and you would be wise to stay on top of all of these
changes.
It is our hope that our site will be a source that allows you to do
this, while at the same time allows you to find out new information
for yourself. We hope you find our site useful and informative. We also
hope that you will visit us often to find answers to your questions.
